Democrats Feature Everyday Americans on Day One of the Democratic National Convention

On night one of the Democratic National Convention, voices from across the Democratic coalition came together on the stage of the United Center to honor President Biden’s record of delivering for all Americans. The country heard directly from everyday Americans – our friends, neighbors, and colleagues – about the life-changing policies of the Biden-Harris Administration and why they’re supporting the Harris-Walz ticket to continue building on that historic record.

The programming featured crowdsourced videos and stories from everyday Americans who understand the stakes of this election and know that Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz are fighting for our rights, our freedoms, and our future. Submitted videos included voters who supported former President Trump in 2016, but plan to vote for the Harris-Walz ticket this November.

Featured Americans from Day One of the Democratic National Convention include:

Brian Wallach and Sandra Abrevaya (IL): Following Brian Wallach’s diagnosis with ALS in 2017, he and his wife, Sandra Abrevaya, co-founded I AM ALS, a patient-led community that provides critical support and resources to those living with ALS, caregivers, and their loved ones. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sandra and Brian learned the power of science to combat illness and believe that the Harris-Walz ticket will continue to support research and save lives.

Ryan Ahern and Dutch Martinez (AZ): Ryan Ahern and Dutch Martinez are United Association (UA) plumbers who are working on Intel’s Arizona expansion and credit the Biden-Harris administration’s infrastructure law with changing their lives because of the jobs and investments it is bringing to communities across the country like theirs. Ahern and Martinez are supporting the Harris-Walz ticket because they know they will continue the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to bringing new and lasting opportunities to communities and workers.

Amanda and Josh Zurawski (TX), Kaitlyn Joshua (LA), Hadley Duvall (KY): Josh and Amanda Zurawski, Kaitlyn Joshua, and Hadley Duvall have experienced firsthand the devastating consequences of Donald Trump’s MAGA abortion bans. These Americans are supporting Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, because they know that the Harris-Walz ticket will fight for their reproductive freedom.
