CHICAGO – On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, the American people heard from families whose lives have been changed by student loan forgiveness.

From day one, President Biden and Vice President Harris have worked to make sure higher education is accessible to the middle class, not a barrier to opportunity. The Harris-Walz ticket will continue to build on the progress the administration has made to expand student loan forgiveness and ensure every American has the ability to save for a home, start a family, or open a business.

In a new video shown tonight, Pennsylvania social worker and AFSCME member Kelli Gray and her daughter spoke about Vice President Harris’s commitment to creating hope and possibility for people like them. After graduating from college and helping her daughter pay for college, Gray faced $350,000 in student loans. She thought she would always be in debt and never be able to buy a home. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s fixes to Public Service Loan Forgiveness, her loans were forgiven and she was able to purchase a home.

“As a single mother, I knew I wanted my daughters to have a better life than I did,” said Kelli Gray. “With this loan forgiveness, I can plan for my future…Thank you Vice President Harris and the entire administration.”

The convention also welcomed the Fitts family to the stage tonight. Raleigh educator Eric Fitts is one of the millions of Americans whose loans were forgiven thanks to the Biden-Harris administration. The Biden-Harris administration has approved billions of dollars in student debt relief for millions of Americans. The Democratic National Convention is telling the story of how Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will continue fighting for the people, for our freedoms, and for our future — so that millions of Americans have the opportunity to not just get by, but get ahead.
