CHICAGO – Last week, Alex Hornbrook, Executive Director of the Democratic National Convention Committee, and Christy George, Executive Director of the Chicago 2024 Host Committee, joined the Chicago Sun-Times monthly political show “At the Table with Lynn Sweet.” Hornbrook and George discussed convention milestones, the United Center move-in, and the Host Committee’s commitment to helping Chicago shine on the world stage.

On telling the story of the Biden-Harris ticket:
Alex Hornbrook, Executive Director of the Democratic National Convention Committee: We are going to be building both the literal and figurative stage for President Biden and Vice President Harris and our party to speak directly to the American people about their record of accomplishment over the last four years and their vision for the next four.

We’ll be creating facilities for the news media to cover all of the proceedings. We’ll be creating some new and innovative spaces and opportunities for content creators and other folks who convey information to Americans in new and exciting ways.
On engaging diverse Chicago businesses:
Christy George, Executive Director of the Chicago 2024 Host Committee: We started on day one thinking about how we could incorporate not only businesses that were from diverse backgrounds, but also how we could incorporate businesses from [all of Chicago’s] neighborhoods. One of the things that we did is we started a vendor directory. We have over 2,300 vendors in there. What we’re focused on doing is sharing that vendor directory as well as our venue portal with all of the delegates as well as the many visitors that will be coming in from out of town to ensure that the ancillary events that they will be hosting during DNC week that they contract with local businesses and as many women-owned, minority-owned, disability-owned, veteran-owned, LGBTQ+-owned businesses as possible.
