CHICAGO – Today, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and Chicago 2024 Host Committee announced Robin Jones as Accessibility Advisor for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Robin will serve as the primary advisor to the Convention team in pursuit of its mission of hosting the most accessible Democratic National Convention in history.
Prior to joining the Convention team, Robin served as the Director of the Great Lakes ADA Center located within the Department on Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has over 40 years of experience in crafting and interpreting disability policy and has spearheaded projects at the local, state, and national level to help assist individuals protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
“I’m pleased to have Robin Jones joining the team for this year’s Democratic National Convention,” said Senator Tammy Duckworth. “Chicago 2024 is not just going to be the most accessible Democratic Convention of our lifetimes, but we hope to set the gold standard of what accessibility can be for large scale events as well—and, under Robin’s leadership, I’m confident we can achieve this goal. Accessibility should be the default, not an afterthought.”
“This year’s Democratic National Convention will be a celebration of accessibility and inclusion as two of our core values, ensuring every voice is heard and every individual is represented,” said Jaime Harrison, Democratic National Committee Chair. “I look forward to working alongside Robin and our Convention team to make sure this celebration is a heartfelt commitment to practice what we preach, and one that delivers an experience where everyone is valued, seen, and included.”
“President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are committed to building a more inclusive country for people with disabilities, and we will continue to lead with those values as we plan this year’s Democratic National Convention,” said Alex Hornbrook, DNCC Executive Director. “Robin’s unparalleled expertise and decades of experience working on disability policy will be invaluable as we work to make this year’s convention the most accessible in history.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Robin and her decades of expertise and experience to our Convention team,” said Christy George, Chicago 2024 Host Committee Executive Director. “I look forward to working with Robin to ensure we host one of the most accessible and inclusive Conventions in modern history.”
As Accessibility Advisor, Robin will work closely with the Democratic National Convention Committee, Host Committee, United Center, McCormick Place, airports, hotels, and other venues as well as the Mayor’s Office for Persons with Disabilities and other key experts to ensure the physical infrastructure and material presented during the 2024 Democratic National Convention meets and exceeds all relevant accessibility standards.
